Dxpedition EU-110: Ready to go!!!

The antennas tests were completed with excellent results. Now we are ready to go.
Tomorrow morning we will begin our trip to Croatia.
We will focus especially on DX (JA, U.S., VK, ZL, etc.) and try to exploit any opening also working during the night. We want to give the opportunity to contact EU-110 to amateur radio operators outside Europe. You can report openings via SMS to the mobile number published on the dxpedition website: www.timpy.it/eu110

EU-110 Dxpedition

I would like to inform you that me (IZ2LSC), Giovanni (I2OGV), Ivano (I2RFJ), Giuseppe (I2ZBX) and Diego (IZ2AMV) will be active from St. Nikola Island (IOTA EU-110) from 28^th May to 2^nd June 2010. We will use the calls 9A/homecall. We will be active on 80-6 M SSB, CW and RTTY with 3 or 4 stations.

QSL is via Buro or Direct to our homecall.

Most likely, on the island , we will not have a permanent Internet connection. So we thought to provide an innovative service: a mobile phone number where you can send us SMS. Use it to communicate suggestions, propagation openings and everything you feel useful to the dxpedition.

Lost Islands Video

This is a great video for a great DXpedition
In 2001 I wasn't a ham licensed operator yet, and then I could not take part to this event, but I'm really excited seeing this video.
I'd love to hear some stories of who was there and lived this dxpedition trying to get a QSO.

2009: the year of CW growth

End of year…. Time of balance!
Clublog statistics gave me the opportunity to analyze my trend in term of QSOs mode.
It’s nice to see that my QSOs ratio in CW is increasing year by year and in 2009 CW was my "top mode"!

0 % in 2007 when I first got my license in July.
8 % in 2008 when I started learning CW
47 % in 2009 … and I’m still a newbie in CW!




I’m sure that the DXCC growth in 2009 (31 new countries) is worth of CW.


I hope, for the incoming new year, to keep this trend on improving my CW skills.

9G5XX Abokwa Island AF-084, Ghana

The band (20M SSB) was very noisy (as always..when there is a contest). Despite this I had a QSO with Vinicio (IK2CIO) that was transmitting from the Abokwa island in Ghana.
Here it is a recording of the signal received today.

IOTA 2009 CONTEST RESULTS

I am very happy to discover that I was ranked 4° in my category. An unexpected result, also because I haven't worked very hard.

FT5GA 40M Pileup

It's hard to work this dxpedition with a vertical antenna.
For the moment I have only one QSO in 30M CW, but I'm satisfied!
Yesterday evening the pileup on 40M CW was very huge with strong signals from NA.

Yesterday I had a QSO with PJ4/PG4M, Bonaire Island in the Netherlands Antilles.
Nothing special, but the curious thing is that these guys had a video live stream on internet, showing their activity real-time (http://www.livestream.com/pj4nx). I saw Michiel waving at me during the QSO!
I recorded the audio, it's really nice to have the opportunity to listen myself and the pileup from the other side...

Insubria Radio Club: Attivazione Chiesetta di San Biagio in Cittiglio (VA)

Domenica abbiamo attivato la chiesetta di S. Biagio valida per il Diploma Abbazie Italiane Ref. LB-0236 e per il Diploma Regio Inubrica Ref. I-003.
Naturalmente non poteva mancare la "motivazione" culinara. Infatti domenica si è celebrata la tradizionale Gnoccata di S. Biagio.
Questa attivazione è stata dedicata a Giovanni I1UJX recentemente scomparso.

I1UJX is SK

I received this sad news right now.
I1UJX passed away today at 19 UTC.
Giovanni was well know to the ham community for building his great vertical antenna, used in many DXpeditions.
We lost another great value person.
RIP my friend.

The new antenna is up

Yesterday I installed my new antenna.
This new Hy-Gain AV-640 replaces the Eco Antenne 7+ after 2 years of good service and DX (251 countries worked).
The major reason of this replace is the low power handling of the 7+ in the 40m band.
The antenna is installed @ 18 m. above de ground and 2 m above the roof.
The antenna is guyed because of strong winds in my area.
